Family sessions; the most rewarding hour of chaos.

Faqs

when should we book?

Anytime you're ready! My turn around time is between 3-4 weeks so keep that in mind if you are on a time crunch and need your pictures for things like holiday cards etc. (Ex if you want to send out Holiday cards early December, you would maybe need your gallery by late November and therefore would need to have your session date scheduled for mid to late October) If you don't need your gallery by a certain time, feel free to book whenever you'd like! I keep my availability up to date on my Instagram and am always available to answer any questions you may have regarding dates, etc.

What do we wear?

You're not alone, this is a dilemma for a lot of families and I am here to help lessen the mental load that comes with planning family pictures. When you book a full session with me I provide a style guide full of ideas and even links for different outfit options for each member of your family! A good general rule of thumb to keep in mind, though, whether you book with me or not, is to pick a color pallet and go for coordination not "matchy-matchy".  Oh, and wear shoes that you're comfortable walking in and (if you're in nature) that you don't mind walking through various terrain in.

Where and when do sessions take place?

This is mostly up to you and what kind of vibe you're going for. If you're not sure what that vibe is that is a-okay. I have a questionnaire that I send you after booking to get to know more about you and your family and we set a location based on your wants! I have a wide variety of locations and am always adding more spots to my list. Our session also  doesn't have to be outside. I am comfortable shooting in all lighting. So if you want a fun, in-home lifestyle session or feel like getting funky in an arcade, I got you.

As for when, time of day depends on what works for you and what type of lighting you're into. If you love a good sun-flare or that yummy golden lighting, around an hour before sunset is going to be our go time which varies depending on the time of year. Another factor to consider is what time of day are your littles generally in the best mood.

my kids don't usually like pictures/strangers, what can i do?

I don't blame them, but I can confidently say I have never had a session where I didn't get at least ONE good smile from even the toughest of littles.  First things first, this is a no pressure zone. I am a veryyyy patient and understanding gal and I know first hand how much of an overload a session can be for anyone. My sessions are tailored specific to your family and even more so to kids. I have all kinds of easy gentle games to play and silly prompts to help break the ice and ease your little/s (and probably also your partner) into natural and comfortable poses. I never push too hard for smiles and if shy snuggles are what we get then cozy sweetness is the vibe for the day. The most important thing is that everyone is comfortable and having fun and that starts with letting go of expectations of perfect behavior because we don't need perfect behavior to have a perfect outcome, we just need good energy. Most kids are a little shy in the beginning but as long as they see the adults having fun, they tend to join right in on the silliness.

how many pictures will i receive back?

I guarantee a gallery of at least 60 pictures and  my clients know they will receive back ALL of the best captures from our time together but what exactly does that mean? During our session I will take around 700 pictures and from that I take out most of the doubles (and triples) and anything where someone's eyes are closed etc. and narrow the gallery down to the very best captures. I am usually able to deliver at least 60 captures but sometimes there are SO many good ones and I have a hard time deciding between two very similar images so  you'll end up with a couple extras, okay a lot of extras. Bonus* If there was a moment from our session you were excited to see the images from and maybe only a couple from that point were delivered, I am always willing to check for and deliver extras as well.

do you offer black and white?

Yes! I usually include a few black and white edits in your gallery but am always willing to re-edit a favorite or two into black & white for you if you just ask!
